Splitting a PDF is how you send one chapter instead of a whole manual, separate a batch of scanned invoices, or remove the pages a recipient should not see. MyFileNest's Split PDF lets you choose pages and decide whether they become one extracted document or a set of separate files.
After choosing a document and selecting pages, you decide how the result is saved. One extracted PDF gathers every selected page into a single new document, in the original order. Separate PDFs turns each selected page into its own file; several files arrive together in one ZIP, while a single selected page downloads directly as a PDF.
Your original file is never changed. Pages are copied, not cut, so the source remains complete.

An office manager scans a stack of 24 delivery notes into one PDF. Each note is a single page and needs to be filed against a different order. Selecting all pages with Separate PDFs produces a ZIP of 24 one-page files, named in page order, which can then be renamed to the order numbers and filed individually.
Later, a client asks for only the terms section, pages 14 to 19, of a 60-page proposal. Selecting those six pages with One extracted PDF creates a short document the client can review without seeing pricing for other customers.
MyFileNest has three closely related tools. Split PDF is best when you are thinking in terms of output files: one or many. Extract PDF Pages is the quickest way to pull a handful of pages into one new document. Delete PDF Pages starts from the other direction and removes pages you list, which is easier when you want to keep almost everything.
If you need to change the order rather than the selection, use Reorder PDF instead. Rearranging is a different operation from splitting, and doing it in one dedicated step makes mistakes easier to spot.
Documents that need splitting are often exactly the ones you would rather not upload: bank statements, HR files, legal bundles. Split PDF processes the file in your browser tab and returns the pages as a download, without sending the document to MyFileNest. Very large documents need more device memory, so on an older phone a several-hundred-page file is easier to handle on a computer.
When Separate PDFs produces a ZIP, the files are numbered in page order. Extract the ZIP, then rename each file before filing it: a pattern such as date, sender and document type, for example 2026-10-03-acme-delivery-note.pdf, makes files easy to find later without opening them.
If you split a document to share only part of it, open the result and check the document properties in your viewer. The title stored in the PDF may still mention the full original document; rename the file itself so it describes what the recipient is actually receiving.
Finally, keep the original whole document in a safe place. Split files are convenient for sharing, but the complete original is usually the record you will need if a question comes up.
Does splitting reduce quality? No. Pages are copied as they are, so text stays selectable and images keep their original resolution.
Can I split a password-protected PDF? Not directly. Unlock it first with a password you are entitled to use, then split the unlocked copy.
Why is one of my split files almost as large as the original? Pages can share resources such as fonts and images, and each new file needs its own copy of anything its pages use. Running Compress PDF on that piece can help.

Share one chapter from a long report. Use a representative source, compare the output with the original, and keep the version that meets the destination's requirements.
Encrypted or damaged PDFs may not open. Return to the retained source, adjust the relevant setting and create a fresh result rather than repeatedly processing the output.
The file is processed on this device and is not uploaded to MyFileNest. Closing or refreshing the page clears the active session.
Practical limit: Files up to 25 MB are accepted for guests. Very large dimensions, complex documents or limited device memory can affect browser processing.
